There are a
lot of ELA technology standards and after looking at them I have realized there
are several I know how to use, and there are also many I need practice with
before I would be able to use them in the classroom. One standard I am
extremely familiar with is W/WHST.2
"Write to explain/inform". I have used this standard a lot
throughout my school career. I have used the standard when writing papers and
doing projects for school. This standard is the one I would feel most
comfortable teaching in my future classroom as of right now.
Another standard I am familiar with is RL.7
"Multimedia: Literature". This is another standard that I have
had to use throughout my schooling. Many of my teachers have incorporated
literature into things such as their PowerPoints etc. and I have incorporated
it into my projects as well.
One standard I will need more
practice with before using it in the classroom is SL.5 "Use Digital Media". While I have been introduced to
things included in this standard, I definitely need to refresh my skills. For
example, I need improvement in doing things such as audio recordings. RI. 5 "Text Structure:"
Informational Text is another standard I could improve on. I do not need
help with using this standard when doing my own work necessarily, but more of
putting the research I am using in order properly for that task. I feel I would
need more practice before I would be ready to teach a class about this standard.
While I have had a lot of practice with computers, I still have a lot to learn
and improve on.
For me, the newsletter design
assignment we were given ended up being very enjoyable to complete. I really
appreciated that it gave us the ability to practice making a type of newsletter
because it is something I will definitely have to do in the future. One thing I
learned is how to make a line where you cut a form and a line to fill out
things. I never realized how easy the process to make those lines were and I am
very thankful that I now know how. I also liked having the refresher on shading
items. A final thing I took from this assignment was using the online pictures.
They changed the program differently than how you used to find the pictures and
I appreciated being able to work with that some. Next time I can explore word
some more to make the newsletter even more creative. Overall, I'm satisfied
with how my newsletter turned out. I love the colors on it, fonts used, and the
experience it gave me for the future.
