Blog Post #6

For this assignment I chose to look at the website for Springwood Elementary School, which is located in Tallahassee, Florida. I viewed a few websites before choosing this one, and this school’s site impressed me with the amount of information they provide for their parents and students. For example, they have a lot of different sections for each category of people that may be using the site. Some examples are, “about the school”, separate sections for parents and students, and the even have a tab for their employees. When you go on the different parts of the website you can find just about any piece of information or document that you may need. They have information on the website for all parents and students of every grade level to access, and they even have a portion dedicated to the different programs the school offers.
I envision using technology as a future educator in many different ways to be more productive. I will use the website my school provides, or if I have to create my own, to keep parents and students updated as to what is going on in class. My class site will include things such as important dates, documents, announcements, etc. that will be useful for the members of my class to have access to. I will also use technology to post grades online. This will be especially useful to parents because they will have quick and easy access to see how their child is doing in school. Finally, another technological tool I will use is having games online for my students to play. There are several sites that will help them practice their academic skill and be improving their computer literacy at the same time.
After visiting the Technology Sandbox at school, I learned of a lot more technology that can be used in the classroom. Smart Boards are definitely a technological tool that I desire to have one day. They are so efficient for classroom use and their capabilities seem to be endless. You can write on them like a white board, access the internet, and even use things such as PowerPoint.  Another thing I saw in the Technology Sandbox that I thought could be useful is the 3-D pens. These would allow students to draw, design, or write things and be able to physically hold a tangible item. I feel these pens would help make the learning more hands-on. Overall, there is so much technology available now that will be helpful in the classroom.
