Blog Post #9

A flipped classroom is a newer trend in the educational world. This is where the typical idea of learning in the classroom and doing activities for homework is reversed. In a flipped classroom, students would learn the lesson at home through things such as podcasts, online videos, etc. Then when they come to school they will do activities and assignments related to what they have learned. This allows the more hands on activities and where you practice what you learned while the teacher is present. Here is a link to an article that discusses a flipped classroom more in depth: http://educationnext.org/the-flipped-classroom/

In the podcast we heard the terms open education, open content, and open source. Open education overall is making education easier to access for all. There are often a lot of limitations put on education and how to receive it. The goal of open education is to make getting it more achievable for everybody. Open content is where information is put out and people are allowed to use it for free. People can get this information, use it, and even modify it for their own usage as they please. Finally, open source are software programs that enable users to download and use the program for their own benefit. We have learned that these sources are typically free. Here is a link to a site that encourages open education. It gives access to different tools that you can use and allows individuals to get involved in the open education community: https://www.oercommons.org/

From working on the two PowerPoint assignments, I have realized there is a lot about PowerPoint I didn't know. The most beneficial skill I've learned is how to link a slide to another slide in the same presentation. This will be very helpful to use as a future teacher. I've also enjoyed just getting to practice with my editing skills and learning how to make the PowerPoint as a whole more visually pleasing. I liked that the assignments allowed us to be creative and explore what PowerPoint has to offer for presentations. Overall, the assignments have really helped me learn more and have taught me skills I will definitely be able to use in my future career.
